300 Black Out Vs 7.62*39 : Comaprison.

Considering the similarities that both the cartridges have it is always a difficult task to compare both the cartridges. But one thing Is sure that are very much like modern shooters who like to hunt with modern rifles. They are very effective and have a clear advantage over other cartridges like .223 Remington in their category. Both are equally effective. But despite so many similarities, there are some key differences that one should be aware of so that he can choose between the two as per his needs and requirements. Not just that both these cartridges are quite misunderstood and there are many rumours around them all the time. In this blog, we would try to differentiate the two and also help you understand which cartridge to be used in what situation.

In an attempt by manufacturers to develop an intermediate cartridge for combat purposes with more power and effective range that pistol cartridge 7.62*39 was one of the cartridges that were developed in this line. 300 Blackout Ammo is a newer cartridge as compared to 7.62*39 was developed for special groups considering their requirement in the kind of missions they indulged in.

As far as size is concerned both cartridges are very much similar but 300 blackout has a longer overall length whereas 7.60*39 has a longer case length. But the rim diameter of 7.62*39 is bigger. Although with there more or less similar size their ballistic is more or less the same. As far as accuracy is concerned 300 blackouts have a slight advantage over others.

Since both are fairly popular ammo they are manufactured by many companies like Hornady, federal, underwood ammo etc.

Both are generally used in semi-automatic rifles which is a primary reason for their military use. 300 is more used in AR-15 type rifles whereas 7.62*39 is used in AK Clones and some other rifles. Though both are suited for hunting medium games from a short and moderate distance 300 blackout is slightly better because of its accuracy but its subsonic load should be used with caution because of its inability to expand on striking which reduces the impact. When you are looking for a cartridge in a short barrel 300 has a big advantage here. When it comes to cost though 7.62*39 is less expensive and more easily available than 300 blackout. As far as recoil is concerned both have very similar recoils.

As it was stated before that both are very similar so to say who is the winner between the two is slightly difficult but 300 blackout seems to have an edge over 7.62*39.
